Seatours in Stykkisholmur in West Iceland offer fantastic fun and educational trips for School Groups. Below is a description of our two most popular school group tours. We also offer
tailor made tours - just contact us for details.
Unique Adventure Tour for school groups
Unique Adventure is a fun and educational nature & bird watching tour on the stunning Bay of Breiðafjörður. We sail around the numerous islands, explore strangely shaped cliffs, exceptionally strong tidal currents, watch birds e.g. puffins, cormorants, black guillemots, kittiwakes and if we are lucky the majestic white-tailed eagle.
The commentary is done by the captain and for school groups it is possible to put a greater focus on subjects such as geology, marine biology or history.
The highlight of the tour is when a net-plough is cast overboard and shellfish and other sea creatures brought onboard for everyone see. It is only the bravest ‘Vikings’ that dare to try out the raw scallops and sea-urchin roes! Are you one of them?
The Unique Adventure Tour is on schedule from 15 May - 15 September but during other periods it is possible to set up special departures.
This tour has been hugesly popular with school groups, both Icelandic and international.
Flatey Island for School Groups
A visit to the Island of Flatey is an unforgettable experience. It is one of only two Island on Breidafjordur bay that is still inhabited whole year around. Most of the buildings on the island are from the 19th century so strolling about gives one the impression of travelling back in time.
During your visit you can watch numerous species of birds, explore old times, look at the old village, see the church with its striking artwork and see the oldest library in Iceland (and most definitely the smallest one).
In the summer, the island offers a restaurant, hotel (www.hotelflatey.is), campsite and farm accommodation. During other seasons, it is possible to visit one of the farms and enjoy a truly Icelandic refreshemtns.
During the summer season you can choose to stay for either 2.5 hours or 8.5 hours (when travelling from Stykkishólmur).
It is also possible for groups travelling with a bus, to send it ahead across the bay and enjoy a few hour stop on the Island (no extra charge for this service).

Her grave can be seen there. From 1184 until 1550, there was a wealthy monastery nearby. The small mountain Helgafell was sacred to people of the Saga age. The story goes that if you walk the path from the grave of Guðrún Ósvífursdóttir up to the remains of the chapel on top (face east), without speaking a single word or looking back on the way, you can have three wishes. The wishes must be pure-hearted and told to no one.

The name of the lava field is derived from Víga-Styr´s berserks. In the year of 982 the berserks were forced by their leader to cut a path through the lava, Berserkjagata, but then he betrayed and killed them. The path is still visible, and also the burial mound of the berserks.
- Drápuhlíðafjall Mountain. An unusual and colourful mountain containing basalt and rhyolite, with lignite between layers and fossilized treetrunks.
- Kerlingarskarð. ("Troll´s pass") A pass (311m) over the Snæfellsnes mountain range. A folktale tells of a lady troll who was on her way home with her catch after good nights fishing in a lake nearby when she was caught by the sun and turned to stone. She can still be seen with her line of trout over her shoulder, on a ridge of the mountain Kerlingarfjall, opposite the mountain Hafrafell, at the north end of the pass. It is possible to walk up there but it is a difficult hike.
